Defender™ Snail & Slug Pellets
Size: 1KG Box
Main product features
There's nothing quite so disappointing as checking on your latest vegetable, herb and flower seedlings to find half of them have gone! Vanished overnight, no trace, simply GONE. The usual suspects are snails and slugs, whose voracious appetites may see them consume dozens of young plants in a matter of hours. Tried and true Defender pellets will soon have them under control.
When to use
Features
- Scatter rather than heap
- Pellets work best when scattered lightly around young plants to protect them, rather than in heaps, which could be attractive to domestic and native animals
- Bran based
Suitable For
Eradicating snails and slugs around all plants including vegetables, herbs and ornamentals
Not Suitable For
Do not leave pellets exposed on the soil when domestic pets are present - use a bait trap (available from most hardware stores)
Do not use if it is raining or rain is expected - the bran-based pellets will absorb moisture and break down before snails and slugs have had a chance to find them
Do not use near stormwater drains, streams, or watercourses
CAUTION: Keep out of reach of children.
Read Safety Directions before opening or using.
How to Use
The active ingredient metaldehyde is poisonous to snails, slugs and other gastropods
It works on contact or by ingestion (pest eating it)
It is soluble but it is not absorbed by plants and does not enter the food chain
Sprinkle pellets lightly around plants to be protected
Don't place them too close to plants - the idea is to attract snails and slugs to the baits and away from your seedlings
Apply every few days - the pellets degrade when exposed to weather and the active ingredient is soluble, washing into the soil when you water or it rains

When to Use
Whenever snails and slugs are present, especially after planting out young seedlings. Sprinkle around the garden after the rain, when snails and slugs emerge to eat.
Safety Information
WARNING: KEEP PELLETS AND PACKS OF PELLETS OUT OF THE SIGHT AND REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS
The pellets are dangerous if pets consume enough of them
If a pet has eaten snail pellets, seek urgent veterinary attention
Symptom onset is rapid and small dogs may deteriorate rapidly if veterinary assistance is not sought quickly
MAKE SURE you take the pack with the pet to the vet
Poisoning most often occurs when a hungry pet, mistaking the pellets for pet food, knocks down a packet and wolfs down the contents
Pets and wildlife are not at risk from consuming snails that have already been killed by the snail pellets, because the product will have been metabolised and rendered harmless in the snail or slug gut.
