FEATURES
- Bonsai Potting Mix contains coarse grit in addition to the usual composted pine bark, to help it retain moisture and nutrients for longer in the shallow bowls and pots used for traditional bonsai
- Wetting agent assists moisture to soak into the potting mix and helps roots absorb nutrients
- Certified to meet the Australian Standard for Premium potting mixes
SUITABLE FOR
- All traditional bonsai, including evergreen or deciduous, flowering or foliage trees and shrubs
- Starting new bonsai from seedlings or rooted cuttings
- Safe to use for new plants - the controlled release of nutrients means it will not burn soft leaves or tender young roots
NOT SUITABLE FOR
Don't use in hydroponic growing systems
Don't use on lawns - use only specifically named lawn topdress soils on grassed areas
HOW TO USE
- Use Bonsai Potting Mix straight from the bag - no further additives required
- Select a clean pot with large drainage holes that is in proportion to the size of your bonsai plant and its root system - if you want your plant to grow bigger select a larger pot than previously
- Position anchor wires through the drainage holes, then cover the base of the pot with mesh (to prevent potting mix washing out) and a layer of grit or coarse washed river sand to aid drainage
- Water the plant thoroughly, then carefully remove it from its existing pot
- Gently tease the old potting mix from the outside of the rootball. Carefully remove any damaged or twisted roots and prune back elongated roots - pruning the roots will stimulate new growth
- Fill 1/3 of the new pot's height with the fresh Bonsai Potting Mix
- Place the plant in the pot then add more potting mix to the correct height of sloping just below the rim of the pot to the base of the bonsai trunk -the bonsai should look like it's in a miniature landscape
- Gently tap the new pot down to help the new potting mix settle in and around the roots
- Thoroughly water the plant and allow it to drain freely
- Place the pot in a sheltered spot for 5 days to allow the plant to settle and acclimatise before moving it to a permanent home
