Size: 10L
Main product features
A superior quality propagating mix for germinating vegetable, herb and flower seeds and for rooting stem, leaf and root cuttings. It includes Scotts Osmocote® that feeds for 6 months
When to use
FEATURES
- The calcium in gypsum promotes strong growth while the phosphorus encourages better rooting from both seedlings and cuttings
- Water crystals absorb and hold many times their own weight in water, releasing back into the mix as and when plants need it. Helps keep germinating seedling roots evenly moist
- Includes Coir, a renewable resource that also aids in moisture and nutrient retention
- Certified to meet the Australian Standard for Premium potting mixes
SUITABLE FOR
- Raising seeds and cuttings of most plants
- Safe to use for all edibles
- Safe to use for seeds and cuttings - the controlled release of nutrients means it will not burn soft leaves or tender young roots as they develop
NOT SUITABLE FOR
- Don't use for the propagation of phosphorus sensitive plants (it contains boosted phosphorus)
- Use Scotts Osmocote® Professional Native Potting & Planting Mix instead
- Don't use in hydroponic growing systems or ponds
- Don't use on lawns - use only specifically named lawn topdress soils on grassed areas
HOW TO USE
Sowing seeds
- Fill a clean seed tray with Seed Raising & Cutting Mix, level off with your hand, firm lightly and water with a fine, gentle spray
- Sow seeds thinly and evenly as per seed packet instructions. Cover the seeds if required with their own depth of mix, pressing lightly to ensure they remain in the mix and will not be washed off
- Place the tray in a warm location away from direct sunlight. Keep consistently moist to the touch by periodic misting
- After seedlings have formed their second set of new leaves, transplant the new plants into larger pots or outdoor containers using Scotts Osmocote® Professional Premium Plus Potting Mix
Establishing cuttings
- Take a cutting in the appropriate way for the type of plant you are propagating
- Fill a pot with Seed Raising & Cutting Mix to within 2-3cm of the rim
- Using a dibble (about pencil thickness) make a hole in the mix and insert the cutting to about one third its length and firm in place by pinching the mix with your fingers
- Several cuttings can usually be placed into the one pot but don't overcrowd them - allow room for root and leaf/shoot growth
- Water well and keep the pot in a warm place out of direct sunlight. Enclose the cuttings in a plastic bag or similar held in place around the pot's rim with an elastic band to create a mini greenhouse that will retain humidity
- Keep consistently moist - remove the bag and mist the mix if required
- After a few weeks, test the cuttings by very gently pulling on them one at a time, Any resistance means roots are forming
- When cuttings have developed good roots, report individually or plant out into the garden, depending on the time of year and type of plant being raised
WHEN TO USE
- Whenever seedlings or cuttings are to be grown
