Plush & Lush: Tip #2 Feed
When you look at your lawn, do you say to yourself. It looks “OK”? Or, It will get better when it rains! Well, why wait? The best formula for a thick, green lawn is to fertilise. For most common lawn sizes, its one easy step that takes just 10 minutes.
That “OK” lawn that may look a pale grey-green, may be developing thin or bare patches has a soil base not containing enough food to keep the grass healthy. If you’re one of those gardeners who keeps forgetting the lawn needs feeding, adding fertiliser once a year, in early Spring will reinvigorate your lawn and power it into Summer.
But there’s a very old saying – an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure – and nothing could be more spot-on when it comes to feeding your lawn. Feeding three times a year – early Spring, early Summer (before it gets too hot), and mid to late Autumn will keep that lawn plush and lush all year round.
Feeding seasonally with Scotts Lawn Builder All Lawn Types or Scotts Lawn Builder Buffalo adds essential nutrients. Not only will your lawn look thicker and greener with fertiliser but, it will also fight off the weeds and be better suited to survive hot and dry or cold conditions. A thick lush lawn will not give weeds the opportunity to establish and if any weed seeds do germinate, the grass will often out competent them, shading them out. Yeah less weeding!
How do I fertilise?
Its simple, apply and water in. Every bag of Scotts Lawn Builder Slow Release Lawn Fertiliser has detailed information about how much to apply (application rate in grams per square metre), how to apply and if or when it needs to be watered in.
While using a Scotts Spreader isn’t compulsory, it is the easiest way to make sure the fertiliser is spread evenly and accurately at the rate recommended on the pack.
Some Lawn Builder formulations, may even be applied and left on the lawn for a day or so. You can then just wait for the rain. If rain doesn’t eventuate, water in after a few days. At this point take note of your “OK” lawn and watch the results come through over the coming days. Job done!
