Scotts Lawn Builder Starter Slow Release Lawn Fertiliser
Size: 4kg
Main product features
This popular lawn fertiliser has an excellent reputation with home gardeners and professional turf managers alike. This product has been specially formulated to use before or after laying new turf or seeding a new lawn
When to use
FEATURES
- May be safely used on all lawn types before or after seeding or laying turf
- Boosted iron, sulphur and calcium promotes deeper green growth and strong roots. The thicker the lawn is, the less chance weeds have of taking hold
- Slow-release of nutrients through controlled feeding eliminates waste through run-off and leaching and prevents burning and surge growth
- Traditional lawn foods release or 'dump' most of their nutrients within a couple of weeks of application, causing a rapid surge in growth that quickly drops off again as the food supply diminishes. Scotts Lawn Builderâ„¢ uses patented time-release technology to ensure nutrients are released slowly and continuously over a three month period
- Starter has less than 0.5% phosphorus, which means it can be safely used anywhere in New Zealandwithout posing any risk to ground or surface water
- The recommended application rate is a low 22 grams per m2, not the kilograms often associated with regular lawn starters!
- When used as directed, this product is safe to use around domestic pets and children. Check paws and feet for granules before allowing pets or children on to paved areas as staining may occur
SUITABLE FOR
- All lawn grasses including all named varieties of buffalo, traditional couch, Santa Ana couch, kikuyu, bent, fescues and carpet grass
- All grass substitutes such as dichondra (also known as pennywort or kidney weed), lippia, zoysia
NOT SUITABLE FOR
- Scotts Lawn Builderâ„¢ is not recommended for use on plants other than lawn grasses and lawn substitutes
- Do not use if the temperature is expected to exceed 30 degrees C - wait for a cool spell
HOW IT WORKS
- Scotts Lawn Builder is a slow-release fertiliser that provides continuous nutrition over a three month period
- Every granule of Starter contains Scotts patented time-release nitrogen
- Nutrients are released at about the same rate that grass roots can take up the fertiliser so there is no wastage, run-off to waterways or damaging surge growth
HOW TO USE
How much will I need?
Starter has a recommended application rate of 22g/m2
To work out how much you will need to fertilise your new lawn or seed bed:
- Calculate the area in square metres (multiply the length by the width)
- The area multiplied by the application rate will give the exact amount of Scotts Lawn Builder you need
- Use a set of scales to weigh it out and then add it to the spreader ready to apply - do not be tempted to add a 'bit extra for luck' because over-application may result in nitrogen burning

How do I apply it?
- For best results ALWAYS use a Scotts spreader
- Check your model and make sure to set it correctly before you start (settings are also on the back label of the product)
- If you don't have a spreader, make sure you distribute the fertiliser evenly over the lawn - uneven applications may result in 'hot spot' burning where too much has landed in one spot

* Setting 5 on Scotts handheld spreaders applies half the recommended rate. If using our spreader move over the entire area in one direction (eg north-south) at a slow steady pace, then repeat the application at 90 degrees (eg east-west) to give full even coverage
When do I fertilise next?
- To keep new lawns growing well, we recommend an application of Scotts Lawn Builder All Purpose three months after sowing seed or laying turf
- As the new grass becomes established, it needs feeding on a regular basis if it is to thrive and stay dense and vigorous. Underfed lawns thin out over time, allowing weeds and other problems to appear

WHEN TO USE
- Before or after seeding - you can sow grass seed either immediately before or after applying Starter - no waiting needed
- Starter can be used in the final preparation of soil for the laying of instant turf, or it can be applied after the turf has been installed
