Recycling is important yet we really should be reusing the packaging we purchase and in doing so save money too. Here at Evergreen Garden Care we have launched the first refill stations in garden centres and introduced bottles and jars for life.
In May and June we trialled a Tomorite liquid refill station at the Notcutts Rivendell store, near Warrington. Consumers can either buy their bottle for life in store or bring their old 1 litre bottle to refill. Pricing is comparable to a pre filled bottle, yet the consumer can reduce the amount they spend by bringing back their bottle for life and only paying for the product inside. Our bottle for life means you can wave goodbye to single use plastic and save money too!
In British Garden Centre Group’s Playhatch store near Reading we are trialling a grass seed and plant food granule refill station. This station allows consumers to purchase only what they need and there is a set of scales where the consumer can weigh the packaging and then the product to get a price. We offer a range of packaging solutions, either a jar for life, bring their own packaging or use a paper bag.
The objectives of the trial is to:
1. Reduce our plastic footprint together
By refilling and reusing your jar you are reducing the number of bottles that need to be recycled.
It’s also good to know that our jars are made of 100% recycled plastic and are recyclable.
2. Save money
By reusing your jar or bottle for life you don’t have to keep on buying the jar.
We will be monitoring the results of the trial and whether our consumers are keen to use refill and reuse systems. If successful we will look to launch more refill stations in the future, so watch this space!
